Medicine’s Search for Meaning

Medicine’s Search for Meaning

This article made me cry a little at the end.  There is a lot that needs to be fixed about our medical system, of which the doctors and how they are trained is a part, but this is definitely a step in the right direction.  At the end the author comments that it may be difficult to demonstrate to hospitals the profit margin in letting doctors engage in “unproductive” (read, unbillable) activities like connecting emotionally with their patients and taking care of their own emotional and mental health.  Let’s hope profit motives don’t interfere with bringing humanity back to medicine.
